In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Inch like this:
Inch. par. and hamlet with ry. sta. (Inch Road), NE. co. Donegal, 8 miles NW. of Londonderry, 3396 ac., pop. 533; P.O.; the par. includes Inch Island, in Lough Swilly.
