1923 General Election: The first ever Labour government comes in

The Liberals were now re-united under Asquith, and none of the three main parties gained a majority. The election had been called by the Conservatives to win support for their plans for tariff reform, and without a clear majority they could not stay in office. Labour consquently took office for the first time, as a minority government.
