Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for NEWFIELD

NEWFIELD, a village at the mutual boundary of Cumberland and Lancashire; at the foot of Seathwaite, 6 miles N of Broughton-in-Furness. It contains a small inn, and a small church and parsonage; and it was the residence, for about 20 years, of the clergyman popularlycalled " Wonderful Walker, " whose story is patheticallytold by Wordsworth.
