Cardoness, an estate, with a mansion, in Anwoth parish, SW Kirkcudbrightshire. The mansion stands amid fine grounds on the right side of Fleet Bay, 3¼ miles SW of Gatehouse, and is the seat of Sir William Maxwell, third Bart. since 1804 (b 1809; suc. 1860), who owns 6381 acres in the shire, valued at £2136 per annum.
