BAIN (The), a stream of Aysgarth parish, N. R Yorkshire. It rises in Raydaleside, among high mountains; and runs 8 miles northward to the river Ure at Bainbridge. It expands into Simmer water 3 miles above Bainbridge; and makes two fine waterfalls. Simmer water is a lakelet of about 105 acres, a resort of water fowl, and abounding with fish; and borrows picturesque ness from surrounding scenery.
