Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Canna

Canna, island, Small Isles par., Argyllshire, 3 miles NW. of Rum and 12 miles SW. of Skye, pop. 57; P.O.; is 4½ miles long, 1 mile broad, and has a maximum elevation of 800 ft. The soil is tolerably fertile, and the pasture is very fine. Potatoes and barley are chiefly grown. Cod and ling abound on the coast. Canna Harbour, conveniently situated for the fishing grounds, is between Canna and Sanday, which are separated by a channel dry at low water.
