This system for crop classification has been designed by the GBH GIS project to enable comparison of all farm censuses from 1866 to 1970. This inevitably means including many crops in a large 'Other' category. Although Farm Census data for Scotland as well as for England and Wales have been converted to this structure, the Scottish classification for 1961 fits particularly poorly, not identifying rye or beans and peas. Hops are not identified in the Scottish classification for 1931 or 1961, but there were no hops...


at all in Scotland in 1871 or 1901.
