In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Helston like this:
Helston, mun. bor. and township, Wendron par., Cornwall, on river Hel, 1 mile N. of Loo Pool, 10 miles SW. of Falmouth, and 318 SW. of London - mun. bor. and township, 309 ac., pop. 3432; P.O., T.O., 3 Banks; owes its importance to the productiveness of the copper and tin mines in the vicinity, most of which, however, are now worked out and deserted. The bor. returned 1 member to Parliament until 1885.
Helston is now part of CORNWALL Unitary Authority. Click here for graphs and data of how CORNWALL has changed over two centuries. For statistics about Helston itself, go to Statistics.
