In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Moyrus like this:
Moyrus, coast par., W. co. Galway, between Killery Harbour and Ard Bay, 2 miles SE. of Clifden, 100,981 ac., pop. 9176; contains the Twelve Pins and a great part of Connemara.
