Place:

Glendalough  County Wicklow

In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Glendalough like this:

Glendalough, mountain vale, 8 miles NW. of Rathdrum, mid. co. Wicklow; a spot here is known as the "Seven Churches," from its being the site of an ancient city, one of the oldest seats of religion and learning in Ireland, founded by St Kevin in the 6th century. There are interesting ecclesiastical ruins, and a round tower, one of the finest of its kind.
