In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Mohill like this:

Mohill.-- market town, co. Leitrim, and par., partly also in co. Longford, 5 miles NE. of Dromod ry. sta.- par., 30,122 ac., pop. 9155; town, pop. 1117; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank, 1 newspaper. Market-day, Thursday. Mohill has considerable trade in yarn, corn, and provisions.
