In 1837, Samuel Lewis's Topographical Dictionary of Ireland described Usk like this:
USKE, a parish, in the barony of EAST NARRAGH and RHEBAN, county of KILDARE, and province of LEINSTER, 4 miles (S.) from Kilcullen, on the road to Baltinglass; containing £319 inhabitants, and comprising 1649 statute acres, as applotted under the tithe act. Near Redgap, within the limits of the parish, a skirmish took place in 1798, between the king's troops and the insurgents. ...
Fairs are held on the Thursday before the 12th of May and the first Thursday and Friday in October. It is a rectory and vicarage, in the diocese of Dublin, forming part of the union and corps of the prebend of Dunlavan: the tithes amount to £77. 1. 7. In the R. C. divisions it is part of the union or district of Narraghmore.
