In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Stillorgan like this:
Stillorgan, par. and vil. with ry. sta., in co. and 5 m. SE. of Dublin - par., 693 ac., pop. 1907; vil., pop. 551; P.O. The vil. is 1 mile N. of the sta. The reservoirs for the Vartry water supply to Dublin are here. Stillorgan Castle, Stillorgan Park, and other seats, are in the vicinity.
