In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Tintern like this:
Tintern, par., S. co. Wexford, on Bannow Bay, 4 miles N. of Fethard, 6863 ac., pop. 1347; has the fine remains of Tintern Abbey.
