In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Ballymoney like this:

Ballymoney, market town, in the above par., NW. co. Antrim, on a small affluent of the river Bann, 53 miles NW. of Belfast and 150 miles N. by W. of Dublin by rail -- township, 516 ac., pop. 3049; P.O., T.O., 2 Banks.Market-days, Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. It has linen mfrs., and a good market for agricultual and dairy produce.
