In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Ewanrigg like this:
Ewanrigg, hamlet, Dearham par., W. Cumberland, 1 mile SE. of Maryport; in vicinity is Ewanrigg Hall. See ELLENBOBOUGH AND EWANRIGG.
