Descriptive gazetteer entries

In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Penrhyn Slate Quarries like this:

Penrhyn Slate Quarries, Carnarvonshire, in 8. vicinity of Bethesda; the quarries are very extensive, giving employment to several thousand hands, and the slate is conveyed to Pert Penrhyn at Bangor.

This is the only descriptive gazetter entry we have found, but you may be able to find further references to Penrhyn Slate Quarries by doing a full-text search here.
