In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Yordas Cave like this:
YORDAS CAVE, a stalactitic cavern in the NW of W. R. Yorkshire; in the SW side of Whernside mountain, 4½ miles N by E of Ingleton. Its entrance is a rude arch, closed by a door; and its interior expands into an apartment, 180 feet long and 60 feet high, and leads thence, by a narrow passage, into a circular chamber.
