Pop., 3,100. The property is subdivided. Lead mines employ many of the inhabitants, and belong to W. B. Beaumont, Esq. The living is a p. curacy in the diocese of Durham. Value, £400.* Patron, the Bishop of D. The church is good; and there are four dissenting chapels, and a national school.
