APPLETHORPE, Apesthorpe, or Habblesthorpe, a parish in East Retford district, Notts; on the verge of the county, 1 mile E of Leverton r. station, and 5½ E of East Retford. It contains the hamlet of Coates; and its Post Town is Sturton under Retford. Acres, 1,040. Real property, £1,369. Pop., 142. Houses, 26. The living is a p. curacy in the diocese of Lincoln. Value, £81. Patron, the Bishop of L. There is no church; but there are a Wesleyan chapel, and charities £62.
