In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described South Bishop Lighthouse like this:
South Bishop Lighthouse, on rock 5½ miles SW. of St Davids Head, Pembrokeshire; is 36 ft. high, with revolving light 144 ft. above high water and seen 18 miles.
