WESTGATE, a chapelry in Stanhope parish, Durham; on the river Wear, 5½ miles W of Stanhope r. station. It was constituted in 1867; and it has a post-office under Darlington. Pop., about 1,500. The living is a p. curacy in the diocese of Durham. Value, £250. Patron, the Bishop of D. There is a Primitive Methodist chapel.
