Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Innermessan Moat

Innermessan Moat, circular mound, once surrounded by a fosse, Inch par., Wigtownshire, on E. side of Loch Ryan, 2 miles NE. of Stranraer. Innermessan is the site of an important medifval town, and also, it is now commonly supposed, of the ancient Rerigonium (usually written Beregonium), a seat of the Caledonian tribe Novantf The farmhouse stands on the site of Innermessan Castle, built in the 15th century.
