Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Strangford, Lough

Strangford, Lough, a large and long sea-lough, E. co. Down; has an entrance 6 miles long by ½ to 1 mile broad through which the tide flows at 8 or 9 miles an hour, an interior expanse about 16 miles long and from 2½ to 5 miles broad, and a depth of 2 to 26 fathoms, and contains many small islands.
