Broughton-in-Furness (Broughton West), market town and ry. sta., N. Lancashire, 9 miles NW. of Ulverston and 273 miles NW. of London; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank. Market-day, Wednesday. B. is situated at head of estuary of Duddon, which divides Lancashire from Cumberland, among slate, iron, and copper mines. In vicinity is Broughton Tower, with superb view.
