Here we are presenting statistics for a historical unit, which may have changed its boundaries significantly during the period covered.
Although Youngs says this unit was created a separate CP in 1866, and from then on it was part of Basingstoke PLU, both the 1861 and 1871 census parish-level tables list it as a Tything within Stratfield Mortimer parish, within Berkshire and the Mortimer sub-District of Bradfield Registration District. It was only in 1881 that Mortimer West End was listed within the Bramley sub-District of Basingstoke Registration District. Young's footnote describes the inclusion within Basingstoke from 1866 as a'presumption', so census information has been given priority here.
We know of no alternate names.
