NEWTON-BY-CHESTER, a township in St. Oswald parish, Cheshire; 1½ mile N E of Chester. It includes part of Flookersbrook, and comprises 423 acres. Real property, £2, 380. Pop., 298. Houses, 48. The property belongs chiefly to the Earl of Kilmorey and James Dickson, Esq. Newton Villa is Mr. Dickson's seat: Newton House is the residence of E. H. Roscoe, Esq.; and Springfield, of A. Ashmall, Esq. There are extensive nursery grounds.
