In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Tullaghobegly like this:
Tullaghobegly, coast par., NW. co. Donegal, between Ballyriess and Gweedore Bays, 10 miles SW. of Dunfanaghy, 68,551 ac., pop. 9636; includes the islands of Tory, Inishbofin, Gola, &c.
