In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Bailieborough like this:

Bailieborough, par. and market town, SE. co. Cavan, 7 miles W. of Kingscourt ry. sta. and 58 miles NW. of Dublin -- par., 12,415 ac., pop. 4137; town, pop. 1091; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank. Market-day, Monday. The seat of B. Castle is in vicinity.
