In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Dundrum like this:
Dundrum.-- seaport vil. with ry. sta., Kilmegan par., E. co. Down, on Dundrum Bay, 7 miles SW. of Downpatrick, pop. 372; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank. It exports gram, potatoes, and cattle, chiefly to Whitehaven and the N. of England.
