Houses, 22. The property belongs to A. F. W. Montagu, Esq. Melton Hall is Mr. M.'s seat; contains fine paintings of the Fountaynes, the Wilsons, and the Montagus; commands an extensive prospect; and is situated in a well-wooded p ark. ...
The Cliff commands a very extensive and charming view, including Rotherham and Sheffield. The livin g is a vicarage in the diocese of York. Value, £97. Patron, A. F. W. Montagn, Esq. The church is ancient and of different periods, from Norman downward; consists of nave, S aisle, and chancel, with a tower; and contains monuments of the Fountaynes and the Wilsons.
